22 Rounds for a Cause: Over 70 Participants Raised $1,250 for the We Defy Foundation

Bushido Academy hosted 22 Rounds with over 70 participants and raised $1,250 for the We Defy Foundation — helping disabled veterans reclaim their lives through Jiu-Jitsu.

August 15, 2025, Bushido Academy wasn’t just training — we were standing for something greater.

Over 70 students, instructors, and supporters took part in our 22 Rounds event, raising an incredible $1,250 for the We Defy Foundation.

The format was simple but powerful: 22 rounds of sparring, symbolizing the average number of veterans lost to suicide each day. Each round represented a moment of focus, resilience, and solidarity with those who’ve served and now face a different kind of battle.

What is the We Defy Foundation?

The We Defy Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides combat veterans coping with military-connected disabilities — including PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and physical injuries — with access to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training as a path toward healing, community, and mental clarity.

They believe (as we do) that Jiu-Jitsu can change lives — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. The mats offer a place for veterans to rebuild themselves, find camaraderie, and regain purpose.

Why It Matters

Our mission at Bushido Academy is about more than belts. It’s about community, character, and using our art to make a difference — both inside and outside the dojo.

Events like 22 Rounds remind us why we train, who we train for, and how far the ripple effect of a strong martial arts culture can reach.

To everyone who rolled, donated, or cheered from the sidelines — thank you.
You made an impact. You honored the cause. And you showed that our community rolls with heart.
